A New Vintage of Marjorie to Celebrate.
For us, some wines mean so much more than what's in the bottle. Marjorie has always been one of those wines.
We're delighted to introduce you to our 2022 Marjorie Blanc de Blancs, our first new release of this wine since the Cudlee Creek bushfires devastated our vineyards in December 2019. After several years between vintages, and much work to rejuvenate our premium Chardonnay blocks, sharing a new release of this wine feels like a celebration in itself.
Made from estate-grown Adelaide Hills Chardonnay and crafted using traditional method bottle fermentation, the 2022 vintage is elegant, vibrant and beautifully refined. Delicate aromas of green apple, lemon zest and white blossom lead into a palate layered with fragrant quince, citrus curd and subtle toasted hazelnut. A fine, persistent bead and bright natural acidity create a finish that is crisp, refreshing and wonderfully moreish.
For those of you who don’t know, this wine is named after my grandmother, Marjorie.
She was the kind of woman who believed every milestone deserved to be celebrated. Kind, resilient and endlessly practical, she carried the quiet strength of a generation shaped by the war. As a nurse, she dedicated her life to caring for others, never one for fuss or extravagance. Yet she also had an adventurous spirit. After losing my grandfather, Allen, she embraced the next chapter of her life, travelling the world in her later years with her closest nursing pals, proving it is never too late for new adventures for the young at heart.
She loved to laugh, loved bringing people together and, fittingly, always enjoyed a glass of sparkling wine.
The label itself takes inspiration from my grandparents' wartime wedding celebration that took place in 1943, while they were both away from home, serving their country in Darwin and Alice Springs. It is filled with symbols honouring Marjorie’s Army and my grandfather Allen’s Air Force careers blended with symbols of love and hope. It is a subtle nod to the beginning of a life built on resilience, optimism and making the most of every occasion. Their wedding certainly was a moment of bright celebration at a dark time in our history.
For me, this wine has always been about more than Chardonnay and time on lees. It's about celebrating the people who shape us and carrying their stories forward.
I think Marjorie would have approved of that. She certainly would have enjoyed opening a bottle if she were here with us today. I hope you love our 2022 Marjorie as much as we do.
